2024 Shanghai Ocean University Preparatory Program Prospectus


Introduction

SHOU preparatory program is based on the faculty and educational resources of the Shanghai Ocean University, and uses for reference of the preparatory education for undergraduates under the Chinese government scholarships and Shanghai municipal government scholarships, so as to develop teaching and management schedule which is suitable for preparatory students. Students can improve Chinese language ability, relevant major knowledge, intercultural communication skills to meet the basic standards for major study at Shanghai Ocean University.

01.Applicant

SHOU Preparatory Program is open to foreign nationals who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in Shanghai Ocean University, and need to improve their Chinese language proficiency, cross-cultural communication competence and required academic abilities for undertaking undergraduate studies in Shanghai Ocean University.

04.Teaching Arrangements

Program provides one-year full-time intensive courses, which are:
First semester: Courses for Chinese language ability improvement (30 class hours per week) .
Second semester: Courses for Chinese language consolidation (30 class hours per week).
The Shanghai Ocean University will organize language and cultural activities such as Experience China, Chinese Corner, International Chinese Day and Chinese Culture events.

Through one year of intensive Chinese learning, the goal is to have solid language preparation for the professional major learning stage.

05.Facilities

SHOU Preparatory Program students are provided with on-campus accommodation with access to the Internet, shared kitchen, laundry room, sports facilities, etc.

06.Fees

Application fee:
RMB 400 (non-refundable).
Tuition fee: 
RMB 20,000 Per Academic Year.
According to pre-admission interviews and comprehensive evaluations, outstanding students are eligible for the Shanghai Ocean University President Scholarship Type C, which covers a 50% reduction in tuition fees.

07.Bachelor Stage Scholarship Evaluation, Coverage and Standards

Students who successfully complete the SHOU Preparatory Program study, pass the HSK4>180 score and plan to continue the bachelor study at Shanghai Ocean University will have the opportunity to get the bachelor scholarship according to the following standard:

08.Eligibility

1.Non-Chinese citizen aged between 17 and 23, holding personal passport.
2.In good health (Physical Examination Record Form for Internationals must be provided by authorized hospitals).
3.Outstanding academic performance in high school studies.
4.Have some basic knowledge of China. The one with Chinese Proficiency Test HSK3 or above and GPA >80% of the total score will be prioritized in selection.
5.Meet the entrance criteria for the bachlor programs in Shanghai Ocean University.
6.Not granted any other Chinese scholarships (for scholarship applicants).

09.How to apply

Step 1: Register Online:
Complete the application online at: www.gjxssqxt.cn.
Step 2: Select Program:
Please select “Preparatory Students for Undergraduate Program” then choose “
One Year Intensive Chinese Language Preparatory Program”.
Step 3: Fill in the Blanks:
Please fill in your personal information and related education experience online.Remember to click “SAVE” whenever you input any important information.
Step 4: Upload Documents:
Please upload your passport, certificates or other documents in PDF form.
Step 5: Submit the Application:

Please submit the application when you complete the application form and upload all the required documents.


10.Application Materials

1. Photocopy of the passport (applicants inside China need to provide a photocopy of the currently valid visa page or residence permit page)

2. Physical Examination Record Form for Foreigner. It must be provided by authorized hospitals. Applicants who do have difficulties should submit the health condition statement.

3. Certified scan copy of secondary school graduation certificate. (Graduating student may submit pending graduation certificate. Official graduation diploma must be submitted promptly after receiving them. Notarized Chinese or English translated copy is required for non-Chinese or non-English documents.)

4. Certified scan copy of all years secondary school academic transcripts. (Notarized Chinese or English translated copy is required for non-Chinese or non-English documents.) National College entrance examination record. If not applicable, do provide relevant statements. (Notarized Chinese or English translated copy is required for non-Chinese or non-English documents.) Other certificates proving academic performance or social capabilities (Notarized Chinese or English translated copy is required for non-Chinese or non-English documents.)

5. Chinese Proficiency certificate. (HSK 3 or above, or Chinese learning certificates issued by authorities.)

6. Personal statement, no less than 800 words, stating personal strengths, study plan, and reasons for choosing the programme.

7. Self introduction video (include previous learning experience, reasons for choosing Shanghai Ocean University, plans after graduation, interests and expertise, etc.)

8. Recommendation letter from high school teacher or other teacher (Notarized Chinese or English translated copy is required for non-Chinese or non-English documents. The letter should indicate the position, institution name, contact information of the referee.

9. Guardian's Commitment (SHOU) (required for applicants aged below 18)

10. Non-criminal Record from the police or schools. Applicants who do have difficulties should submit the non-criminal record statement.

11. Two 1-inch photos.

Note: Should the materials listed above are not complete, the application is considered invalid.

All materials must be provided in original for verification at the time of check-in and registration.

11.Application Deadline

For scholarship applicants: May 31, 2024.
The result will be sent to the applicants by July via e-mail and publicized at https://www.gjxssqxt.cn/

The academic year starts in September (Please refer to the admission letter for the exact date).

14.Others

After one year of study, according to the final evaluation, the students who successfully completed the preparatory study and passed the HSK 4>180 will have the priority to apply for the SHOU Scholarship for Bachelor Program at SHOU.
