SHOU International Culture Festival 2024 kicks off
The 6th International Culture Festival and International Chinese Language Day of Shanghai Ocean University kicked off on April 19 at the Haixing Square under the theme “Cultural Exchanges for a Diversified and Harmonious World.” Thousands of “visitors” from different countries came to the site to experience and explore the splendid cultures of different countries and regions.
SHOU Vice President Jiang Min announced the opening of The 6th International Culture Festival and International Chinese Language Day of Shanghai Ocean University.
She pointed out that “the world is undergoing great changes unseen in a century, and the future of the world is related to the future of the youth, and depends on the choices and efforts made by the youth.” She hoped the students uphold the shared human values and jointly create a better future of “a diversified and harmonious world”.
Hindi Song “Gulabi Aankhain”
With the song Gulabi Aankhain performed by LAVALL JR CHRISTOPHER AUGUSTUS and MOHSAN RAZA, the International Cultural Festival performance officially began.
Pakistan Folk Dance and Cameroon Folk Dance
“Pakistani Folk Dance” with steady and vigorous rhythm, created a joyful, confident and upward atmosphere. The “Cameroon Folk Dance” brought by students from Cameroon conveyed the verve and vitality of Africa.
Chinese folk song “Jasmine”
The folk orchestra’s performance of the Chinese classic folk song “Jasmine” brought an immersive experience of the unique charm of traditional Chinese music.
Poetry Recitation “Facing the Sea with Spring Blossoms”
SOR SOKANHA from Cambodia and SEBASTIANUS KEN CHANDRA from Indonesia delivered sincere expectations and blessings to the audience through their poetry recitation “Facing the Sea, Spring Blossoms.”
Russian Folk Dance
As a unique and rich dance form, Russian folk dance profoundly demonstrated Russia’s cultural and national characteristics.
Chinese Song “Sea Wide Sky”
With its surging momentum and strength, the song “Sea Wide Sky” sung by Tuo Shirun from the College of Foreign Languages conveyed the courage to face the challenges of life and chase the dream in your heart.
Clothing is the epitome of the splendid cultures of different countries and regions. The “International Clothing Show” jointly performed by Chinese and foreign students sparked and inspired innovation through the interaction between diverse clothing cultures.
There were 18 booths representing 25 countries and regions at this year’s International Culture Festival, demonstrating a microcosm of the global community filled with delicate handicrafts, mouthwatering cuisines, and attractive activities featuring different art and traditions.
Food is of primary importance to the daily life. A wide variety of local dishes is of great popularity among teachers and students.
All kinds of games and activities enriched students’ understanding of cultures around the world and brought the youth of SHOU and the world together.
So far, the International Culture Festival has been held 6 times and become one of the best-known flagship events at Shanghai Ocean University. It offers a broad platform for international students to showcase different cultures, a window for students from SHOU and abroad to see the world, a chance to spread Chinese traditional culture and better tell the stories of China to the world.
