上海海洋大学第四届上海暑期学校暨上海海洋大学第六届全球暑期学校顺利开幕 The 4th Shanghai Summer School & the 6th SHOU Global Summer School Opens

2024年6月7日上午，上海海洋大学第四届上海暑期学校暨上海海洋大学第六届全球暑期学校开幕式在海洋科技大楼109会议室顺利举行。副校长江敏、留学生工作办公室、工程学院负责人出席，来自8个国家30余名学生参加了开幕式。工程学院副院长王芳主持开幕式。

On June 7, 2024, the opening ceremony of the 4th Shanghai Summer School & the 6th SHOU Global Summer School was held in Room 109, Marine Science and Technology Building of Shanghai Ocean University, marking the start of the summer school. Jiang Min, Vice President of Shanghai Ocean University, together with representatives from the International Exchange Office and the College of Engineering Science and Technology, attended the event. More than 30 students from over 8 countries and regions witnessed the opening ceremony. The event was hosted by Professor Wang Fang, Vice Dean of the College of Engineering Science and Technology.

江敏副校长表示，这是学校首次线下举行上海暑期项目，欢迎各位国际学员前来交流学习，希望大家通过为期三周的丰富多彩的活动，通过课堂讲座、实地参观和动手实践等多种形式，了解我校海洋工程领域的科学研究，感知中国、感知上海、感知临港、感知海大，在知识学习、文化探索和相互学习等方面收获颇丰，也欢迎大家未来能继续在上海海洋大学留学。

In the opening speech, Jiang Min, Vice President of Shanghai Ocean University noted that this is the first time that the Shanghai Summer School is held offline. During the three-week program, participants will engage in a range of program activities, including academic discussions, field trips, and cultural experiences, so as to learn about marine engineering research taken by SHOU and feel the charm of China, Shanghai, Lin-gang, and SHOU. She hoped the participants would have a meaningful and fruitful experience through knowledge acquisition, cultural exploration, and mutual learning. Moreover, she welcomed the international students participating in this event and studying at SHOU in the future.

Yan Ping, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Engineering Science and Technology, heartily welcomed all the participants from afar. She introduced the Ocean Engineering as one of the college’s specialties and wished the participants would not only gain knowledge and skills but also further gain mutual understanding and respect between different cultures.

来自泰国农业大学的学员代表甘富信（Phunsin Kantha）在发言中表达了对此次暑期项目的期待，特别是海洋工程主题的讲座，相信能从中获得新知、拓宽视野、激发创新思维。他也对海洋文化活动感到兴奋，认为这将加深对中国海洋历史关系的理解，欣赏海洋科学背后的文化维度，并期待与世界各地的新朋友进行深入交流。

After the instructors’ speeches, Phunsin Kantha, a participant from the Kasetsart University (KU) in the Thailand, expressed his expectation on the upcoming activities, especially the lectures on marine engineering. He hoped to seize the opportunity provided by the SHOU Global Summer School to gain knowledge, broaden horizon, boost creative thinking, understand China’s marine history and culture, and at the same time make new friends.

作为本次暑期学校的重要组成部分，嘉宾讲座和文化活动将聚焦于海洋工程主题。学员们将有机会在专家和教授的指导下，深入了解海洋工程或水产养殖工程的知识。此外，学员们还将参观中国海洋博物馆等多个文化景点，以深入了解海洋知识。同时，专业老师将带领学员们开展多样化的文化活动，如中国书法、龙舟活动、中国绘画、中国古筝音乐等，以便探索中国神秘的文化海洋。本次暑期学校的开幕式不仅为学员们带来了对未来三周学习和体验的期待，也拉开了一场国际学术与文化交流的序幕，必将为参与者带来一场难忘的学术和文化之旅。

SHOU Global Summer School is committed to enabling participants to gain academic knowledge while deepening their understanding of marine culture. Thematic lectures, seminars and cultural activities are on offer, helping students not only gain in-depth knowledge of marine engineering and aquaculture engineering guided by professionals and experts in related fields but also experience Chinese culture through cultural activities including Chinese Calligraphy, Dragon Boat Race, Chinese Painting, Guzheng (a Chinese zither) etc. The opening ceremony marked the beginning of a 3-week curricular projects and workshops for international academic and cultural exchange, which will undoubtedly make the Shanghai Summer School a truly international experience in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

上海暑期学校（Shanghai Summer School,3S）由上海市教委主办，自2008年启动以来，已成为上海教育国际合作与交流的重要窗口之一。旨在搭建全球不同语言和文化之间的教育、人文交流平台，吸引并鼓励更多优秀的外国学生来到上海体验中国、感受上海。今年是我校第四次举办上海暑期学校。我校聚焦RCEP海洋文化交流主题，旨在让国际学生不仅学习海洋科学知识，更深入了解上海海洋大学和上海，感受中国海洋文化和中华文明的魅力。

Launched in 2008, the Shanghai Summer School (3S) is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission focusing on educational collaboration and communication. The Shanghai Summer School aims to provide an international academic and cultural exchange platform for participants to understand Shanghai and China from different perspectives. Year 2024 marks the fourth time for Shanghai Ocean University to hold the Shanghai Summer School. SHOU’s flagship program, RCEP·Marine Culture International Program with an overarching topic of marine culture exchange, provides an excellent opportunity for international students to dive deeply into marine science mystery and immerse in rich Chinese culture.
