Shanghai Ocean University 2025 International Undergraduate Program (English Major)
I. Program Overview
Shanghai Ocean University invites global applications for its International Undergraduate Program (English Major), offering English and Intensive International Chinese courses. The program aims to cultivate internationally competitive professionals with solid English and Chinese language proficiency, cross-cultural communication skills, and a global perspective. Integrating language education with Chinese culture, it prepares students for careers in international exchange, education, business, and related fields.
II. Curriculum Design
(A) English Major Core Courses
- Covering language skills and specialized knowledge.
- Objective: Develop comprehensive English competencies (listening, speaking, reading, writing, translation) through systematic training, familiarize students with English-speaking cultures, and enhance their international professional competitiveness.
(B) Intensive International Chinese Courses
- Doubled Chinese language coursework in the first year to rapidly improve practical Chinese proficiency.
Note: English major classes require a minimum of 30 enrolled students. If the quota is unmet, students will be merged into other classes.
III. Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Nationality: Non-Chinese citizens holding valid passports.
2. Educational Background: Holding a high school diploma or equivalent (notarized and authenticated by Chinese embassies/consulates). Current senior students may submit a pre-graduation certificate first and provide the official diploma at enrollment.
3. Language Proficiency:
- English: Meeting the English proficiency standard for high school graduation in the home country (submit academic transcripts or language proficiency certificates).
- Chinese: Demonstrating strong interest in learning Chinese. Attending an admission interview, and being placed into classes based on Chinese proficiency after enrollment.
IV. Application Procedure
1. Online Application: Submitting applications via Shanghai Ocean University’s International Student Online Application System (https://www.gjxssqxt.cn). Using a valid email address for registration and regularly checking your email box (including spam folders) for updates. Failure to provide requested information may result in application rejection.
2. Deadline: June 30, 2025 (based on online submission time).
V. Required Documents
1. Passport (Private Passport)
- Providing a clear scan of a valid passport (preferably with an expiration date after July 2026).
- For applicants currently studying or residing in China, please include the latest passport visa page and valid residence permit.
2. 1-inch Electronic Photo
- Color passport-style photo, ≤200KB, in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format, with a resolution exceeding 295×413 pixels.
3. Academic Certificates and Transcripts
- Original high school diploma and notarized English translation.
- Original high school transcripts for all semesters and notarized English translation.
- If being enrolled in the final semester of the high school, submission of an official pre-graduation certificate (including personal information, enrollment date, and expected graduation date). Original documents must be presented at registration.
4. Language Proficiency Certificates
- English: IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 80 (PBT 550) or proof of English-medium high school education, or native English speaker certification. The minimum requirement is to meet the home country’s high school English proficiency standard (submission of transcripts/certificates).
- Chinese: Applicants are required to provide a HSK 4 certificate with a score of 180 or above. If the requirement is not met, they must first enroll in relevant preparatory courses and can begin their undergraduate program after meeting the admission criteria.
- All certificates must be valid (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, HSK within 2 years of issue).
5. Two Recommendation Letters
- Dated after September 2024, signed by two different teachers, and submitted in original handwritten form.
6. Study Plan
- Write a 1-2 page A4 study plan in English, including personal background, educational history, reasons for application, and future career goals.
7. Personal Introduction Video in English
- MP4 format, approximately 3 minutes in length, ≤40MB.
8. Foreigner Physical Examination Form
- Using the official template from the application system, including a detailed blood test report.
- The personal information on the medical examination form must be completely filled out and accompanied by a personal photo stamped with the hospital’s seal or official stamp. Medical records will be deemed invalid if they contain abnormal examination results, incomplete medical history, missing doctor’s signature, missing hospital official seal, unstamped applicant photo, or if the submitted report is beyond the 6-month validity period.
9. Non-Criminal Record Certificate
- Provided by the local police department. If unavailable, submit an official school certificate of good conduct.
10. Financial Guarantee Certificate
The applicant is required to provide a financial guarantee certificate completely and truthfully, based on the template issued by the Shanghai Ocean University and signed with commitments by both the applicant and his/her parent(s) / guardian(s).
11. Guardian Commitment Letter (for applicants aged 16-18)
- Downloading the template from the application system, signed and uploaded to the system.
Notes: - All documents must be uploaded in PDF format (except the 1-inch photo).
- For non-English /Chinese original documents, provide notarized translations and upload both the original and translated versions.

VII. Scholarship Policy

VIII. Visa and Arrival
1. Visa Type: Admitted students will receive an Admission Notice and JW202 Form for an X1 study visa application at Chinese embassies /consulates.
2. Residence Permit: Within 30 days of arrival, complete registration at Exit-Entry Administration Corps of Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau with original passport, admission notice, and other required documents.
3. Enrollment Date: September 2025 (specific date on the admission notice).
IX. Accommodation and Campus Life
1. Dormitories: Furnished student housing with beds, desks, wardrobes, private bathrooms, and internet access.
2. Facilities:
- Residential areas: Common spaces including laundry rooms and study rooms.
- Campus: Modern cafeterias with diverse cuisines, a well-stocked library (print and digital resources), and sports facilities (gymnasium, stadium, swimming pool).
