SHOU's Student Team Wins First Place in TRC hosted by FAO


当地时间2025年10月14日下午,联合国粮农组织(FAO)主办的2025年度“世界粮食论坛转型研究挑战赛”(World Food Forum Transformative Research Challenge, TRC)在意大利罗马落下帷幕。上海海洋大学水产与生命学院博士研究生韩焕团队凭借“复合益生菌降碳除味技术”(Probiotics reduce greenhouse gas and off-flavor),从全球参赛团队中突围,斩获该赛事首次“可持续水产养殖奖”冠军。团队指导教师李慷与队长韩焕受邀赴FAO总部参加总决赛。

On the afternoon of October 14, 2025, local time, the 2025 World Food Forum Transformative Research Challenge (TRC), hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), concluded in Rome, Italy. The team led by Han Huan, a doctoral candidate from the College of Fisheries and Life Sciences at Shanghai Ocean University, emerged victorious from global competitors with their project “Probiotics Reduce Greenhouse Gas and Off-Flavor,” securing the inaugural “Sustainable Aquaculture Award” championship. Team advisor Li Kang and team leader Han Huan were invited to attend the finals at FAO headquarters.

The Assistant Director-General of the FAO and Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department presented an award to Team Leader Han Huan.

获奖团队队长韩焕在攻读博士学位期间一直关注水产养殖品质提升,发表多篇高水平论文;队员中既有我校巴基斯坦籍博士研究生司楠宛(Nawal Asif),也有聚焦生态养殖、品质提升的硕士研究生李佳蔚、王媛媛。在刘利平团队青年教师李慷副教授的带领下,形成 “微生物技术生态评估社会适配” 的跨学科研究矩阵。“我们的研究不止于实验室,更要走到全球水产养殖的田间地头。”韩焕在谈到参赛体会时表示,“我们希望把这些智慧融入技术,让全球更多人共享可持续水产的红利,这是我们这代水产科研人的使命”。

Team leader Han Huan has consistently focused on enhancing aquaculture quality during his doctoral studies, publishing multiple high-impact papers. Team members include Nawal Asif, a Pakistani doctoral candidate at SHOU, as well as master's students Li Jiawei and Wang Yuanyuan, who concentrate on ecological farming and quality improvement. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Li Kang, a young faculty member from Liu Liping's team, they developed an interdisciplinary research matrix centered on “Microbial Technology Ecological Assessment and Social Adaptation.” “Our research extends beyond the laboratory to the frontlines of global aquaculture,” Han Huan shared about the competition experience. “We aim to integrate this knowledge into practical technologies, enabling more people worldwide to benefit from sustainable aquaculture. This is the mission of our generation of aquatic scientists.

“世界粮食论坛转型研究挑战赛”是联合国系统内聚焦“粮食安全与农业系统转型” 的顶级青年科研赛事,旨在集结全球35岁以下青年学者的创新力量,破解全球粮食安全面临的气候、资源、公平性难题,通过青年创新,助力实现联合国可持续发展目标(SDGs)。自2021年创办以来,赛事已吸引全球2000余项创新提案,71个标杆项目获超50万美元资助,成果直接应用于联合国粮农政策实践。此次赛事获奖展现了学校人才培养的成果,有助于学校进一步提升“双一流”学科国际影响力,服务国家农业及教育对外开放战略。

The TRC is the premier youth research competition within the United Nations system focused on “food security and agricultural system transformation.” It aims to harness the innovative power of young scholars under 35 worldwide to address climate, resource, and equity challenges facing global food security, thereby advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through youth innovation. Since its inception in 2021, the competition has attracted over 2,000 innovative proposals worldwide, with 71 benchmark projects receiving more than $500,000 in funding. The outcomes have been directly applied to the food and agriculture policy practices of the United Nations. The awards in this competition demonstrate the achievements of the university's talent cultivation efforts, helping to further enhance the international influence of its “Double First-Class” disciplines and serve the national strategy of opening up agriculture and education.
