Postdoctoral fellowship Recruitment Announcement at Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU)
Research Topic: Interaction between fish behavior, flexible fishing gear structure, and flow fields for smart fishing gear design to improve selectivity and ecological efficiency
Supervisor: Prof. Tang Hao
Host Institution: College of Marine Living Resources and Management, Shanghai Ocean University
Position Type: Full-time Postdoctoral Fellow
Duration: 2-3 years
To promote the research and development of smart ecological fishing gear, deepen theoretical research on the coupling mechanism of fish behavior, flexible fishing gear structure, and flow field, and accelerate the application of IoT/AI-based smart fishing gear technology, we are now openly recruiting postdoctoral researchers. The recruitment is carried out under the guidance of Prof. Tang Hao and Dr Nyatchouba Nsangue Bruno Thierry, focusing on the designated research direction. We sincerely invite outstanding young scholars with relevant professional backgrounds and research enthusiasm to join us and work together to promote the innovation and development of marine fishery technology.
1.Research Direction
Focusing on deepening the coupling mechanism of fish behavior, flexible fishing gear structure, and flow field, integrating IoT, AI, fishing gear hydrodynamics and fish behavior ecology, aiming to promote the research and development of smart ecological fishing gear and accelerate the application of IoT/AI-based smart fishing gear technology, the research will focus on the following key contents:
Reveal coupling mechanisms between flexible fishing gear dynamics, flow fields, and fish behavioral responses
Quantify how flow–gear interactions affect size selectivity, species selectivity, and bycatch reduction.
Develop an IoT/AI-based smart flexible fishing gear that dynamically responds to flow and fish behavior and optimize selective fishing technology to improve ecological efficiency.
Ecological effect evaluation of fishing gear and bycatch regulation technology.
2.Recruitment Requirements
Education: Hold a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fisheries Engineering, Fluid Dynamics, Marine Engineering, or a closely related field. The doctoral dissertation must demonstrate a strong connection to fishing gear technology, fluid mechanics, or AI applications.
Age: Under 35 years of age (age requirement may be relaxed for exceptionally qualified candidates with outstanding research achievements).
Theoretical and Research Background: Solid theoretical foundation and hands-on research experience in one or more of the following areas: hydrodynamics, fish behavior research, CFD numerical simulation, numerical modeling, AI algorithm development (deep learning, machine learning), or bycatch reduction device (BRD) design.
Numerical modeling Proficiency: Familiarity with CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or Star-CCM+; proven ability to build and optimize numerical models for fishing gear hydrodynamics, dynamic response, and fish movement modeling.
Programming Skills: Strong programming ability in Python, MATLAB, R language, and C/C++.
Publication Record: A strong publication track record, including at least three first-author or corresponding-author papers published in SCI/SCIE journals. Publications in top-tier journals in the field are highly preferred.
Comprehensive Qualities: Have a strong sense of responsibility, innovation awareness, and team cooperation spirit; be able to work independently and complete research tasks on schedule; have good English listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, and be able to read and write professional English papers proficiently.
3.Postdoctoral Treatment
Salary and Allowance: A competitive annual salary of 300,000 RMB/year (all-inclusive package).
Research Support: Sufficient research funds to support participation in domestic and international academic conferences, field investigations, and experimental tests. Access to advanced experimental platforms and team resources.
Career Development: Support the application for national, provincial, and ministerial-level scientific research projects; provide guidance on paper writing, patent application, and academic exchange.
Facilities and Equipment: The team is equipped with complete experimental equipment, including computer simulation workstations, fishing gear simulation test devices, marine environmental monitoring equipment, etc., to fully meet the needs of simulation analysis, indoor tests and field investigations.
4.Application Materials
Candidates should prepare and submit the following documents:
Personal resume, including personal basic information, educational experience, work experience, research experience, academic achievements, and contact details.
Copies of PhD diploma and degree certificate.
Supporting materials for academic achievements, including copies of representative academic papers, patents, research project records, and other relevant outputs.
Research proposal (within 2000 words), focusing on the research ideas, research content, and expected achievements aligned with the recruitment direction.
Two recommendation letters from professors in related fields sent to the contact email by the recommender.
5.Application Method
Please send all application materials as electronic documents (scanned copies, in PDF format, with the subject of the email marked as Postdoctoral Application - Name - Research Direction) to the following contact email. We will review the application materials in a timely manner and notify the qualified applicants to participate in the interview (the interview time and form will be notified separately).
