The President of Egypt's Suez University Makes First Visit to Shanghai Ocean University to Promote New Developments in Educational Cooperation

2月25日下午，埃及苏伊士大学校长赫纳格尔（Ashraf Ahmed Henagel）首次来访我校。党委书记王宏舟和副校长江敏会见来访客人，国际交流处、研究生院、相关专业学院领导和专家出席座谈会。座谈会由江敏副校长主持。

On the afternoon of February 25, Ashraf Ahmed Henagel, President of Egypt's Suez University, paid his first visit to our university. Party Secretary WANG Hongzhou and Vice President JIANG Min met with the visiting guests. The meeting was attended by leaders and experts from the International Exchange Office, the Graduate School, and relevant academic colleges. The discussion was chaired by Vice President JIANG Min.

王宏舟对赫纳格尔校长一行的到来表示热烈欢迎，并就学校的优势特色学科和未来合作等方面进行了沟通交流。王宏舟表示， 中国正全力建设中国特色社会主义教育强国，推动教育体制机制的深层次改革，这为上海海洋大学带来了重要战略机遇。学校正积极开展综合改革，提升办学质量，扩大国际交流合作，增强服务全球和国家发展的能力。希望未来两校围绕渔业资源及渔业工程等领域开展合作研究，共促合作发展。

WANG Hongzhou extended a warm welcome to President Henagel and his delegation and engaged in discussions on the university’s key disciplines and future collaboration. He stated that China is making great efforts to build a strong socialist education system with Chinese characteristics and is promoting deep reforms in the education system, which presents significant strategic opportunities for Shanghai Ocean University. The university is actively carrying out comprehensive reforms to enhance the quality of education, expand international exchanges and cooperation, and strengthen its ability to serve global and national development. He expressed hope that the two universities could collaborate on research in areas such as fisheries resources and fisheries engineering to promote jointdevelopment.

赫纳格尔校长首先感谢我校的热情接待，表示埃及是非洲第一、全球第六大水产养殖生产国，也是全球第三大罗非鱼生产国。自2023年苏伊士大学成为我校的友好合作院校以来，已有多名优秀学生来我校留学。其渔业资源学院专注于培养适应渔业和海洋研究发展的专业人才，与我校水产、海洋科学、工程等学科契合度高。未来，希望两校建立更紧密的伙伴关系，在科学研究、学科建设和人才培养方面进一步加强合作，共同应对渔业和海洋领域的全球性挑战。

President Henagel first expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from Shanghai Ocean University. He noted that Egypt is the largest aquaculture producer in Africa and the sixth largest in the world, as well as the third largest producer of tilapia globally. Since Suez University became a partner institution of Shanghai Ocean University in 2023, several outstanding students have come to study at the university. He highlighted that Suez University’s Faculty of Fisheries Resources focuses on training professionals to meet the needs of fisheries and marine research, aligning closely with Shanghai Ocean University’s disciplines in aquaculture, marine sciences, and engineering. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for establishing a closer partnership between the two universities, strengthening cooperation in scientific research, discipline development, and talent cultivation, and jointly addressing global challenges in the fisheries and marine sectors.

此次苏伊士大学校长的来访，为两校在渔业相关领域的合作奠定了坚实基础。双方将以此为契机，充分发挥相关学科优势，持续加强在科学研究、学科建设、人才培养和师资队伍建设等方面的合作，为促进中埃两国在教育、科研等领域的交流合作贡献力量。

This visit by the President of Suez University has laid a solid foundation for cooperation between the two universities in fisheries-related fields. Both sides will take this opportunity to leverage their respective disciplinary strengths and continue to strengthen collaboration in scientific research, discipline development, talent cultivation, and faculty development. Together, they aim to contribute to the exchange and cooperation between China and Egypt in education, research, and other fields.
