01 Basic Information For the purpose of constructing the science and technology innovation center with global influnce, promoting the international cooperation and communication, and attracting more outstanding prospective international students to study in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government has set up Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students (hereinafter referred to SGS) . It is established to fund distinctive prospective international students to study in higher educational institutions in Shanghai. 1.The types of scholarship (1) SGS Scholarship Type A: SGS Type A covers tuition, expenses for accommodation (Double Room), medical insurance, and stipend during the corresponding study period. (2) SGS Scholarship Type B: SGS Type B covers tuition and medical insurance during the corresponding study period. (3) 1+4 Bachelor Chinese Language Preparatory Program Scholarship: Bachelor candidates with HSK 3 can apply for 1-year preparatory study, with corresponding fee waiver or scholarship terms based on pre-admission interview and comprehensive evaluation. Bachelor stage scholarship will be awarded based on the preparatory academic performance. 2.Applicants: Outstanding international students applying for a bachelor or graduate program at Shanghai Ocean University. Majors under this scholarship program: 02 Scholarship Application Period: (1) 1+4 Bachelor Chinese Language Preparatory Program Scholarship : Oct 1st, 2025 - April 30th, 2026 (3) Graduate program: Oct 1st, 2025 - February 1st, 2026 03 Applicable Majors (1) Graduate Programs Program Duration: 3 Years for master; 4 Years for PhD
(2) Bachelor Degree Programs Program Duration: 4 Years
04 Applicant Eligibility (1) Non-Chinese citizen in good health, holding personal passport. (2) Age and education background: For bachelor program, applicant should obtain a high school degree or above and be no more than 25 years old; For master program, applicant should obtain a bachelor degree or above and be no more than 30 years old. For PhD program, applicant should obtain a master degree or above and be no more than 35 years old. (3) Outstanding in academic performance (GPA above 3.0). (4) Students outside China should be able to have online communication facilities, such as laptop, stable internet connection, etc. to carry out the interview and necessary communication for application. (5) Abide by local laws, university rules and regulations. (6) Agree to study according to graduation requirements. (7) Bachelor applicants should have China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) test result. Required test subjects vary by program. Please refer to the program catalog for details.
05 Application Procedure 1. Online Application: Submit Online Application and Pay Application Fee Applicants must access the online application system at www.gjxssqxt.cn, complete the application form, and pay the application fee. Please note that the application fee is non-refundable once paid. 2. Review The University will conduct an initial eligibility review of all applications in accordance with the admission requirements. Applicants who pass the initial review will be further evaluated by the relevant academic departments, and interviews may be arranged if necessary. Final admission decisions will be made based on the results of both the initial review and departmental evaluation. Applicants who have been provisionally admitted and have applied for scholarships must await official notification of the scholarship evaluation results. 3. Admission and Enrollment Students who receive official offers of admission must log in to the designated website to download and print the electronic Admission Notice and Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW202). Admitted students must report to campus and complete registration by the date specified on the Admission Notice. Original copies of academic credentials, including diploma and degree certificate, will be verified at registration. Applicants who have not obtained the required certificates by September 1, 2026 will have their admission qualification revoked. Track Application Status Online: Applicants may check the progress and status of their application via the registered email or through the SHOU Online Application System. Please ensure that your email address is entered correctly and check your inbox regularly to avoid missing important information (e.g., interview invitations).
